The World’s Darkest Legends: A Monochrome Coloring Book of 40 Monsters
One black marker. Forty monsters. Fill in every X and the creature comes out of the page.
The World’s Darkest Legends is a monochrome coloring book built around the real folklore behind the world’s most frightening creatures. Not the movie versions. The Wendigo in here has no antlers, because the original never did.

How the one-color reveal works
Every page is marked with small, faint X’s. Fill each marked space in black, leave everything else white, and the monster slowly emerges. The X’s are printed light on purpose, so they disappear under the ink. You don’t need a full set of markers or any color decisions. Just one black pen and a little patience.
Each monster comes with a short description of its legend, so you know exactly who you are coloring and where the story comes from.
A world tour of folklore
The 40 legends are arranged by region, so the book reads like a trip around the world:
- Eastern and Central Europe: Baba Yaga, the Leshy, Krampus, the Rusalka
- South Asia and the Middle East: the Rakshasa, the Ghoul, the Ifrit, the Pisacha, the Djinn, the Churel
- Scandinavia and the British Isles: the Huldra, the Nixie, the Kelpie, Black Shuck, the Banshee, the Draugr
- Africa: the Popobawa, the Adze, the Tokoloshe
- The Americas and the Caribbean: the Jersey Devil, the Wendigo, Mothman, the Duppy, the Cadejo, La Llorona, the Soucouyant, El Silbón, the Chupacabra
- Japan and China: the Oni, Yuki-onna, the Kappa, the Nukekubi, the Nian, the Jiangshi
- The Philippines and Southeast Asia: the Aswang, the Manananggal, the Pontianak
- Australia: the Yara-ma-yha-who, the Bunyip
- And finally, Orkney: the Nuckelavee
Who it’s for
The person who finishes a horror movie and then reads everything about the real legend behind it. Folklore fans, true-story lovers, and anyone who wants a relaxing coloring book that isn’t cute or cozy. It also makes a good Halloween boo basket gift for the friend who is a little too into scary stories.
Questions
What do I color it with?
A black alcohol marker, a fineliner, or a soft pencil all work. Pages are printed single sided, and a backing sheet behind each page is a good idea because markers can bleed.
Are these real legends?
Yes. Every monster comes from folklore told somewhere in the world, and each page includes a short description of its legend.
How many pages are there?
Forty monsters, each with its own reveal page.
